Of the 12 chains supported across Day 1 operators, median deposit fee spans 3+ orders of magnitude - from $0.001 on Lightning to $2.50 on BTC mainnet. We measured 30 days of deposit cycles across 9 operators, cross-referenced operator-reported fees against mempool.space and chain explorers, and recorded p25 / median / p75 / p95 distribution per chain. Headline: Lightning median = $0.001; BTC mainnet median = $2.50; the 2500x cost differential is structural, not noise. USDT-TRC20 is the sweet spot at $0.50 median + sub-minute mempool propagation + 8 of 9 operator coverage. 3 of 9 operators absorb network fees; 5 pass through; 1 charges a flat fee on top.

The 2500x ratio between Lightning and USDT-ERC20 is structural - chain choice matters more than operator choice for small deposits.
  2. For a $50 deposit, fee burden ranges from 0.002% (Lightning) to 9% (USDT-ERC20). A 9% friction tax before the first hand. At $5000 deposit size the same fee burden collapses to 0.09% on USDT-ERC20 and 0.05% on BTC mainnet - the burden concentrates on small deposits and disappears on large ones.

Methodology

How we measured 30 days of deposit cycles

We tracked real-money deposit cycles across 9 operators on each supported chain, captured 3 fee values per cycle (network fee + operator-reported fee + net credited), and cross-referenced operator UI snapshots against on-chain explorer data. Full protocol at /methodology/how-we-test/ §6.

Measurement protocol

  • Window: 30 days. 9 May 2026 - 8 Jun 2026.
  • Sample size: 487 deposit cycles across 9 operators × 12 chains. Coverage matrix sparse - not every operator supports every chain.
  • Sources cross-referenced: mempool.space (BTC + Lightning), Etherscan (ETH + USDT-ERC20 + MATIC), Tronscan (USDT-TRC20), Solscan (SOL), Blockchair (LTC + BCH + DOGE).
  • Three-value fee accounting per cycle: network_fee_paid_usd (on-chain), operator_reported_fee_usd (UI screenshot), net_credited_usd (balance delta).
  • Statistics: p25 / median / p75 / p95 per (chain × operator) cell. Aggregate roster median is the per-chain row in the table below.
  • Chains in scope (12): BTC mainnet, ETH mainnet, USDT-TRC20, USDT-ERC20, LTC, SOL, BCH, DOGE, XRP, BNB (Smart Chain), MATIC (Polygon), Lightning Network.
  • What we did not measure: chain-internal economics, miner extractable value, gas optimization tooling, or non-public layer-2 rollups (Optimism, Arbitrum, Base not yet supported at Day 1 operators - will add as coverage emerges).

Affiliate disclosure: multiple operators in this dataset are commercial partners. Lightning median is dominated by routing-fee tips (typically 1-10 ppm of channel capacity); the $0.001 figure is the modal fee across our 21 LN cycles. SOL fees are denominated in lamports (10^-9 SOL); USD conversion at $130/SOL during the window. USDT-TRC20 sample includes both bandwidth-paid (subsidized) and burn-fee (~13 TRX) cycles - bandwidth-paid is the modal mode.

Scholarly transparency: here's what this benchmark does NOT capture, and where to triangulate against ongoing live data.

  1. 30-day window. Chain-fee economics shift with network congestion + protocol upgrades. Longitudinal continuation lives at live withdrawal benchmark (monthly refresh) - withdrawal-side fees track deposit-side closely.
  2. Operator coverage varies. Not every operator supports every chain; sample N per (operator × chain) cell is small for niche combinations like XRP × Cloudbet (N = 2) or MATIC × Vavada (N = 0, not supported). Aggregate per-chain numbers hold up; per-operator-per-chain cells with N < 5 should be read with wider confidence bands.
  3. Mempool snapshots are point-in-time. Fee paid at deposit-broadcast may differ from fee shown in operator UI seconds earlier - especially on BTC mainnet during congestion. The 487-cycle aggregate smooths this; individual cycles can vary by 2-3x median.
  4. No L2 rollup coverage beyond MATIC + Lightning. Optimism, Arbitrum, Base not yet supported at Day 1 operators (as of June 2026). Will add as coverage emerges - watch for next refresh.

The trade-off: TRON is a more centralized validator set than Ethereum. Many users accept this trade for casino-deposit purposes; for self-custody storage the calculus may differ.
